Is Wichita a secret city?

​Posted on the Wichita subreddit a couple of weeks ago, a world traveler provided a description of Wichita:

Do you agree with their assessment?

Is Wichita a secret city? Are we a generic version of a city (in a positive way) where we have all the same ingredients without the fuss?

Airfares are lower due to decreased demand. Many attractions offer lower prices and fewer crowds, making it an ideal time for travelers looking to save money. Hotel prices can drop by up to 30% during the fall season compared to the summer peak.

10 Years of the Popcorn!

Chatterbox

I don’t know Grant Johnson personally, but he is a fellow Koch-head who works over at Invista and I’ve only ever heard great things. Grant dropped out of WSU after just a year and started working at Koch at just 19 years of age.

Now he has an AI language learning app called Chatterbox that will launch in December. As someone who has used Duolingo relatively extensively, I can't wait to check it out. (shoot me a beta link @GrantJohnson ?)

The Fast & The Furious

Starting yesterday, the streets around Sim Park, Botanica, Cowtown, and Arthur B Sim Golf Course will be closed nightly from 9pm - 6am because people have been doing their best Dominic Toretto impressions.

I’m not talking about family, I’m talking about street racing.

Alternative Water Sources

Cheney Lake is 8’ low and as the primary source of water for the City of Wichita, this is a bit of a teensy, weensy, little problem.

The City says it has looked into getting water from El Dorado Lake, but that water is already designated for elsewhere (and wouldn’t last that long anyway).

Other options on the table?

• ​Reusing water - 30 million gallons of water a day are treated from sewer treatment plant and go into Arkansas River
• Doing a rain dance and hoping for the best

Concert for a Cure

The Wichita Foundation Amphitheater at Exploration Place is now officially open!

The first concert will be held this Saturday! It is the 13th Annual Concert for a Cure!

Wichita Public Schools Foundation

Congrats to Greer Cowley (formerly of HumanKind) on making the move to be the first executive director for the Wichita Public Schools Foundation!

Candlelight Service and Resource Fair

​NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will hold a Candelight Ceremony and resource fair on 10/6 for Mental Health Illness Awareness week.

Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice

As Wichita's oldest non-profit, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice just celebrated their 40th year serving patients and their families.

They are local, independent and cover 25 counties in Kansas and need your help!
