Orpheum Update

Is the Orpheum closing?!

Yes…well, temporarily.

The Second Century Campaign (The Orpheum was built in 1922 and just entered it’s “second century”) was formally announced on Tuesday.

This campaign will consist of major renovations to the building causing it to close for about a year starting in June 2025.

The ~$9.5 million project (of which they have raised 73% so far with hopes to raise the rest over the next 9 months) will keep “historical significance and preservation top of mind”.

A few highlights:

restoration of stage, main auditorium, grand balcony, ceilings, walls, and floors
New seats
New HVAC
improved sound and lighting

The Kindness Canteen food truck is the first phase of a new multi phase program from the Down Syndrome Society of Wichita to help adults learn and apply job skills.

You can catch the Kindness Canteen today (9/6) from 7:30 - 10:30am at Naftzger Park.

There are three new calves at Tanganyika.

This new one is pretty disappointing.
