TOGETHER WITH FLY WICHITA
Fall is a great time to travel.
Airfares are lower due to decreased demand. Many attractions offer lower prices and fewer crowds, making it an ideal time for travelers looking to save money. Hotel prices can drop by up to 30% during the fall season compared to the summer peak.
ICT has 11 nonstop routes, connecting to hundreds of domestic and international destinations.
Last week I flew through the Dwight D Eisenhower airport to Dallas and was once again reminded why we are so blessed with such a great resource here in Wichita.
It’s clean. It’s convenient.
You rarely ever have to wait more than 10 minutes to get through security (also we have one of those fancy, dancy machines where you don’t have to take laptops out of the bag).
Let’s take a look into our airport and what it has to offer.
First off…
Why is it called ICT?
Wichita has a lot of nicknames:
the 316, Ta-Town, Doo-Dah (this will have to be an article of it’s own), the Air-Capital of the world, ICT, and many more (including several that aren’t family friendly, but very entertaining).
Although this is common knowledge to some, I wondered why there isn’t a W in the airport code. Every airport has an abbreviated code for it’s name. When the Wichita airport was assigned a code, the FCCS did not allow airport codes to start with the letters ‘K’ or ‘W’. So that get’s us down to ‘Ichita’.
Typical naming conventions called for the second letter of the city to begin the code followed by any phonetics that make it recognizable. From there, it was decided to use ‘I’,’C’ and then skip to the letter ‘T’ to complete the infamous ICT moniker that so many beloved Wichitans use for their city.
Nonstop Destinations
One benefit of the low cost of living here in Wichita is that we can better afford to travel.
The nonstop locations out of Wichita make that travel much easier.
You can see the 11 current nonstop destinations, the 5 seasonal destinations, and the 5 goal destinations below:
11 Current: Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, Washington D.C., St. Louis, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Denver
5 Seasonal: Los Angeles, Orlando-Sanford, Miami, Tampa/St. Pete, Destin
5 Goal: San Francisco, Salt Lake City, New York City, Charlotte-Douglas, Los Angeles. These are goals because they are major hubs that would greatly improve connectivity to/from Wichita.
