Elementary School → Homeless Center

Recently, 6 schools in the Wichita area were closed due to budget cuts as schools are consolidated.
The idea is to turn the former Parks Elementary (1025 N Main) into a “Multi-Agency Center” or MAC which will help homeless transition from shelters to affordable housing.
We can all agree that kids learn in vastly different ways.
Khan Lab School is an innovative and collaborative approach to learning in Wichita and they are opening their doors in August 2024 for 4th - 9th graders.

They hope to be back open at hte new location at 1712 E Morris by mid-July!
Historic Elgin Hotel
Luis and Alicia Pena may not be in the Wichita area any longer, but they are reopening an upscale restaurant in the historic Elgin Hotel in Marion (about 56 miles north of Wichita).

Affordable Housing Fund Applications
The City of Wichita set aside ~$5 million worth of ARPA funds for their Affordable Housing Fund.
The goal is to give approved home buyers or developers up to $40k per house to help remodel or rebuild certain areas of abandoned homes that the city owns (like 25th and Grove).
Not every department or budget line-item is included – the simulator is designed to be a representative sample of the budget proposals that are likely to come before the City Council for consideration and organized by the areas that residents shared were the highest and lowest priorities for the City to focus on in the next two years during the annual survey.
