Summer Reading Program - ‘Adventure Begins at Your Library'

Starting Monday 5/6, you can pre-register for the Wichita Public Library Launches 2024 Summer Reading Program that runs from May 23-August 1, 2024.

This year’s theme, ‘Adventure Begins at Your Library,’ explores how kids and teens can get lost in adventures through reading and activities available at the public library.

Toddlers, kids, teens, and adults are invited to read books, participate in programs and activities, and win cool prizes all summer long.

Aside from the traditional reading program, a schedule of programs and activities for kids and teens is available online at www.wichitalibrary.org/summerreading.

Vintage for Days

Wichita has a few different options when it comes to vintage or thrifting. Loyal Wichita Life Reader Star White once even wrote a deep dive on the different options.

Today we want to highlight one of the vintage cornerstones, Dead Center Vintage (or DCV for the cool kids), and their newest adventure:

Middle of the Map Vintage Market

The first of which will be June 8th from 10 am to 4 pm at Naftzger Park (yes, right across the street from DCV).

There will be up to 30 local and regional vendors, muzik from Spektrum Musik, and likely some food trucks!

Another Broken Egg Cafe

It’s always fun to see where local entrepreneurs jump after one adventure ends.

For Jon and Jacob (good friends and readers of the Wichita Life Update btw 👋) after college, Player Card, and a couple of other opportunities, they found themselves ready to expand the brunch options in Wichita with Another Broken Egg Cafe.

ABEC will open in August over near K-96 & Oliver and you can bet your bottom dollar we will be there when it opens!

AI isn’t just for big businesses, it’s for small businesses too.

AI also isn’t going anywhere. Luckily, small businesses can take advantage of it to help themselves out.

Cox Business held an event yesterday at Hutton Construction featuring a panel (including a couple of local faces like Ti’Juana Hardwell of Mamarazzi Communications and Ben Hutton of Hutton Construction) who were discussing the results of a 2024 small business survey about leveraging AI for small businesses.

Some stand-out facts include:

2/3 of small businesses invested in AI last year
53% plan to invest more in AI in 2024
Most businesses plan to increase or retain headcount using AI

“I’ll get to it,” you said.

You never got to it. Some say you’ll never get to it.

Well, that right there mi amigo is called deferred maintenance.

And that is where we find our beloved Wichita School District as they “grapple” with $1.2 billion in deferred maintenance needs.

The proposed “newer and fewer” schools would rely on having fewer, newer schools.
