Water Restrictions
Lawn watering season may be over, but water restrictions will not be lifted anytime soon.
โCheney Lake is headed in the right direction (up over a foot last month), but we have a long way to go (7.5โ or 1 Shaquille OโNeal)
Liquor Laws
Iโve never really thought about it, but I noticed that the liquor stores were closed on Thanksgiving per Kansas law. This had me wondering, what other days they are closed. Kansas law does not allow liquor stores to operate on:
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas Day
- Easter
You can buy beer and cereal malt beverages at grocery stores, but not hard liquor or wine.
Kansas law allows grocery stores to sell alcohol on every holiday except Easter.
Oh, and no bottomless mimosas either. Although you can still get your screw driver (vodka + OJ) through the drive-thru at Spangles thanks to Covid.

Illuminations at Botanica
We highly recommend you go to Illuminations at Botanica if youโve never been.
There are ~2 million lights and 10,000 man hours that culminate in one of our favorite holiday traditions (especially with the kids).
Santa Claus
Santa Claus is coming to Towne.
Towne East Square that is.
You can book your time for a Santa Photoshoot here.
You can also come on December 8th from 1-3pm.
Meet at the Southeast Mall Entrance between JCPenney and Von Maur. There will be a parade together through the Mall to the Santa set. From there, enjoy a live performance by the Nutcracker ballerinas, listen to Santa read a heartwarming holiday story, and indulge in cookies & face painting, fun for all ages. ๐๐๐จ
Pickleball Courts
For all those pickleball aficionados out there, WSU has made a decision on the new courts. They used to be between the Softball field and Heskett Center, but needed to be moved as the Softball was receiving a (well-deserved) expanded stadium.
After some SGA kerfuffle, construction for the courts will soon start over between Hubbard Hall and the Heskett Center.
No, kerfuffel is not a secret vocab word this week, but send in some new ones and letโs see what we can do!
Im Yasmin Saucedo from Wichita Heights high school. Our club is the Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO) and we are dedicated towards helping others in our community! Were having an event on December 7th and were curious if you could post this flyer on your platform? We just want to get the word out about our event!
Passageways
Passageways is a great org here in town that deserves more attention. They recently moved from troubled Towne West to the old DAV storefront on West Douglas.
Not only do they have all kinds of support services for veterans, they also have a thrift store at the location where they sell to the public things that are donated but that canโt be used by the veterans. Then the proceeds go right back into the veteran support programs. Learn more here!โ
Giving Tuesday
Thanksgiving. Black Friday. Cyber Monday.
Giving Tuesday is tomorrow!
If youโd like to support a deserving organization, check out the Ronald McDonald House Charities Wichita that helps families and children who are receiving medical care.
Good morning, I'm not sure if you plan on doing a segment next week on Giving Tuesday but just in case I wanted to send you our press release on ways to get involved with Ronald McDonald House. Let me know if you have any questions.
Holiday Cowtown
Wichita was, is, and always will be a Cowtown.
Here are a few holiday festivities at Old Cowtown:
