CIVIL
Street Improvements
The City of Wichita will be busy next year:
- they will pave 1.5 miles of dirt streets (within 1 block of schools)
- preserve 366 lane-miles of roadways
This will cost ~$15.5 million.
Plows
We haven’t received any snow yet, but here is a friendly reminder that you can track your favorite snow plows like Wolfgang Amadeus Sowzart, no More Mr. Ice Guy or The Scrape Gatsby.
PSA
Southbound I-135 to Eastbound K-96 ramp closing overnight (7pm to 7am) until Thursday.
Amtrak Update
We mentioned how Wichita could be the sweet spot to connect the Amtrak train between OKC and Newton.
Here are some additional numbers:
- It would cost $311.9 million ($175.3 for Kansas, $136.6 in Oklahoma)
- Wichita hasn’t had passenger rail since 1979
- This could be operational as of 2029 (50 year gap sounds appropriate) with the Wichita stop at Union Station
- 64.5% of you said you would absolutely take the train if we had better connections while 20.3% of you said you never had but you’d try it out

Childcare Problem
We have a childcare problem in town.
There is a little thing called supply and demand. We had a small supply and a huge demand.
Nonprofit oneCommunity (just launched this fall) thinks they have the solution.
