Fireworks in Wichita

As Independence Day approaches, here is a quick refresher of the rules around fireworks for Wichita:

Bottle rockets = illegal in Kansas (to buy and to shoot)
Fireworks are on sale through July 4th
Violations for 1st time offenders of firework related laws = $1000 and / or 50 hours community service

Changes since 2023:

It is now LEGAL to buy aerial fireworks within the Wichita city limits
Aerial fireworks are allowed to be shot within Wichita city limits from July 3rd through July 5th from 10am to midnight
Non-aerial fireworks can be shot the entire period they are purchased June 27 to July 5th from 10am to midnight

Wind Surge Independence Day Celebration

Pre-game the 4th by heading down to Riverfront Stadium to watch the Wind Surge close out a 2 day home stand vs the Tulsa Drillers complete with post-game fireworks! (It’s also Wine-tastic Wednesday so get a 5 oz pour for $6.

Thursday 7/4

Red, White, & BOOM!

Red, White, & BOOM! is an annual event put on by the Wichita Park & Rec department. They are teaming up with our Wichita Wind Surge (the team is out of town on the 4th) for a free event that kicks off at 6pm and fireworks start around 9:40pm!

You can find food trucks and more. You can sit inside Riverfront Stadium (and grab concessions) or sit along the lawn at the Hyatt. Bring a chair or blankey.

Here are some more details you should know:

Those not inside the stadium can queue up the live music via the PyroCast app during the fireworks.
There will be a variety of food trucks at the Hyatt Lawn.
Join local favorite band The Astronauts for a concert start at 7:45pm inside Riverfront Stadium
Concession stands will be open (FYI - the Wind Surge clear bag policy)

There are a number of street closures:

McLean Ave. will close from Maple to Douglas from 5pm until completion of the fireworks show (approximately 10:30pm), and starting at the Hyatt entrance extending to the end of Lewis St. bridge at Maple and McLean Ave.
The Arkansas River will be closed from the Lewis St. bridge to north of the Hyatt property line. Wichita Fire Department's River Rescue team will be patrolling the area to ensure everyone's safety during the event.
The walking path along the west side of the Arkansas River that is adjacent to Riverfront Stadium will be closed from 7am-10:30pm.

Finally, the classic question - where to park:

The surface lot east of the Hyatt at Waterman & Main St.
The surface lot south of the Hyatt
The gravel parking lots west of the Riverfront Stadium

The Summer Concert Series at Bradley Fair

Every year the finale of the Bradley Fair Summer Concert Series ends in fireworks. This year is even more special as the finale actually falls on July 4th!

Come join your fellow Wichitans to listen to Daydream, a 9-piece funk/fusion horn band from Wichita made up oof local college music professors, Wichita Symphony members, band & orchestra teachers, and professional musicians.

The concert ends around 9:30pm and fireworks will start shortly after!

The ‘Burbs

Wichita isn’t the only place around here who likes to shoot off fireworks, the suburbs and surrounding area do it the right way too. Here is a quick rundown of some of the “out of town” experiences you can check out.

Many of these towns have many activities going on, but I’m just going to focus on the firework shows. Feel free to dig in deeper for more details!

Augusta - Fireworks Display at Augusta City Lake - 7/4 @ Dusk
Derby - Fireworks in the Park at High Park - 7/4 @ 6pm - 10:30pm (fireworks at 9:40pm)
El Dorado - 4th of July at East Park - 7/4 @ 8:45am - late (fireworks after the baseball game)
Goddard - Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks at CDS Ballfields - 7/5 @ 7pm - 10pm (fireworks at dark)
Haysville - 4th of July Celebration at Riggs Park - 7/4 @ 8am - 10:00pm (fireworks at 9:45pm)
Park City - Fireworks at Hap McLean Park - 7/4 @ 10pm
