Wichita is constantly growing and expanding.

On the west side, here is a quick update on a few buildings going in:

Simply Sangria

Simply Sangria was broken into and had their point-of-sale system stolen while dealing with the tragic death of an employee, Pratiksha Kunwar. Help support Simply Sangria.

There is also a GoFundMe for funeral and travel costs for Pratiksha’s family.

Warm Hearts and Warm Coats

The Salvation Army and the Wichita Parks and Recreation department are teaming up to provide winter coats, blankets, and sweats to those in need.

The Warm Hearts Coat Distribution events are:

10/20 (today) - 9:30am - 3pm
10/23 - 10/27 - 9:30am to 3pm

Time to Pave the Way

There are still dirt roads in Wichita.

Starting the day before Halloween, the City of Wichita will kick off a 10-year, $35 million project to pave many of these roads. Roads like Lilac Lane.

Golf Funding

Golf in Wichita - Private and Public Golf Courses

I am not a golfer, but this is good for Wichita.

The City Council just unanimously approved additional funding for the public golf courses in Wichita.

Through August, there were 140,000 rounds of golf played on these public courses, which is ~13,000 more than 2022.

Union Pacific

I won’t dive into the details of what happened, but long story short, years and years ago (1970s or 1980s, no exact date is known), there was a chemical spill from a railroad near 29th and Grove and it has affected many people in this area. It wasn’t discovered until 1994 and in 1998, the state of Kansas identified Union Pacific as the source of contamination.

Now, Union Pacific is being sued for this spill.
