Good morning, Wichita!

We were out of town in Colorado for a wedding over the weekend and someone came up to me to tell me they now live in NW Arkansas, but still read the Wichita Life Update. Pretty cool!

It also had me wondering, who reads the Update that lives the furthest from Wichita? Let us know if you can beat NW Arkansas!

NEWS

Michelin Man-napped

If you’ve been to the Pumphouse downtown, you may have met the Michelin Man.

On Friday night, the Michelin Man was Michelin Man-napped.

Two individuals were caught on video stealing our puffy friend, but he has since made his way home by Saturday evening.

TOGETHER WITH PRAIRIE FIRE MARATHON

The 45th Annual Fall Prairie Fire Marathon is right around the corner THIS Sunday, October 13th.

What is better than one annual tradition this weekend?

TWO annual traditions!

​Prairie Fire Marathon is teaming up with Open Streets ICT to make it a great, double celebration for those neighborhoods around Douglas!

There are 5K, Half-Marathon and Marathon options that start and finish at Riverfront Stadium.

Get out and get moving in the community!

I couldn’t tell you exactly what I’ve shared about Paramount Antique Mall & Marketplace, but I did want to issue a clarification in case I misspoke:

Parking in Other Cities

​Wichita’s paid parking math problem is tough and deserves a deep dive of its own.

Luckily the Beacon did just that by looking at other cities that could potentially be a good model we could implement.

According to the article by Meg Britton-Mehlisch, in similar-ish markets like OKC, Omaha, Des Moines and Topeka, unified paid parking systems made money for taxspayers while Wichita lost money.

Carrie Nation

120 years ago, the infamous Carrie Nation spent some time in the city court in Wichita for attacking liquor establishments.

Dude Perfect

​Dude Perfect is coming back to Wichita next year!

They’ll be back at Intrust Bank Arena on July 11th.

Exploration Place

There is a lot going on at Exploration Place these days. Here is a quick run down of a few upcoming events & exhibits:

• ​Boofest - Family-Friendly Fun on October 18, 19, 25, 26
• ​Riverflix - Free, family-freindly movie nights with Toy Story on October 11 and Monster’s Inc on October 18 - Food trucks will be available
• ​Toytopia - immersive exhibit with larger-than-life toy displays- October 11 - January 12

Botanica

Just down the street from Exploration Place, Botanica is super busy as well.

Here are a couple of things to keep on your calendar:

• Annual Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular event will take place October 9, 10, 11 & 12 from 5:30pm - 10pm with over 1200 unique pumpkins carved
• ​Haunted Hops is back on October 18th form 7-10pm with spooky-themed beers and more

Wild Lights Returns

This is one of our favorite attractions of the year.

For the fourth year, Wild Lights is coming to the Sedgwick County Zoo to wow and amaze in what is becoming a beautiful fall and holiday tradition.

Wichita Women in Tech

Are you a Wichitan, a woman, and in Tech?

If so, head over to the Wichita Women in Tech group to learn more about the community here in town.

Shocker Studios

I visited Shocker Studios recently to go on the Turtleneck Tabletalk Podcast (you can check out their episodes with Roy Moye, Mayor Wu, and more).

Shocker Studios is super impressive.

They also have a digital wall that allows actors to be filmed against any background (way better than a green screen).
