Let's get to it! - Landon Huslig Exploration Place Groundbreaking Consider the ground broken at Exploration Place. Wednesday at 3pm, the groundbreaking for the new Wichita Foundation Amphitheatre took place. The new amphitheater will feature the Keeper of the Plains Ring of Fire show which happens on a nightly basis. It is part of the first phase of a $22 million project for the 20-acres of land along the river that belongs to Exploration Place. This amphitheater will consist of mixed-use space designed to promote good vibes along the river for pedestrians and cyclists and will also host family movie nights and other community events. Cuppa Yo Is it 2010 or 2024? Years after all of the fill-it-yourself yogurt places seemingly closed, it seems the trend has not died completely. And I am all for it. Andover will be getting the Oregon-based franchise Cuppa Yo where they will be the 11th franchisee. Petroleum Building Three 1920βs buildings downtown are about to get a makeover. βSchellenberg Development Co just purchased the Petroleum Building, Kress Energy Center and the OβRourke Title Building. Two of these are located across the street from the soon to be built Biomedical Center. I love to see all the investments into our downtown. LOCAL WichitaTalks Friday, April 19th at TempleLive, KMUW is hosting Wichitalks which is an eclectic and insightful event series featuring lightning-fast, 5-minute talks with 20 slides auto-advancing every 15 seconds. βApply to present today.β Special Events Manager Exploration Place is not only one of the coolest buildings in town, but they throw some of the coolest events (like Death by Chocolate last weekend). They are now looking for a Special Events Manager who will be the logistics behind all of the cool events that they do. This isnβt so much an events planning role, but more of a stage manager or job site foreman who is uber-organized and great with people. If thatβs you, check it out here.β Clean Water 5K Run If you like to run or you just appreciate the value of safe water for everyone, check out the Clean Water 5k where your ENTIRE registration fee goes to building wells in Malawi, Africa and the surrounding countries. To date, theyβve built 21 wells! The April 6th race route will take you along the bike path on the north side of the Arkansas River, past Cowtown and the Keeper of the Plains, to Exploration Place and will return along the south side of the river. Nature Center Spring Break Program βNext week from 10am to 1pm on Monday - Thursday, get out of the house and head to the Great Plains Nature Center for crafts, games, education stations, a naturalist program at 11am, and guided hikes at 11:45. Open to all ages, but designed for elementary age! WSU Nonprofit 6 Shocker students love pets so much, they started a nonprofit. βWags and Whiskers helps pet owners understand the needs of their pets.
