Heat Island

Planting trees can help grow Wichita's canopy | The Wichita Eagle

No this is not a book like Treasure Island and no it is not the hottest new Netflix show about steamy relationships.

Accoeding to the US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), heat islands are “urbanized areas that experience higher temperatures than outlying areas.”

Still not sure what that means? Basically too much concrete and buildings = higher temps.

Wichita identified 17 areas where if trees were planted, it would cool down extreme temps.

This is a 50-year plan, but as they say “the true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit”.

AlterNative Film Festival

What is AlterNative?

It is Wichita’s first all-Indigenous film event.

The second edition is coming up 11/10 - 11/12 at the Mid-America All-Indian Museum!

Mobile Mammography

The mobile mammography unit is back after 20 years.

It offers 3D imaging and hopes to increase breast cancer survival rates.

Small plane makes emergency landing near Towne West Mall

A 27-year-old pilot had to make an emergency landing Friday night near Towne West Square which makes for the most excitement at Towne West since they forgot to pay their energy bill..
