Drought State 2

We were warned it could come to this. Water levels at Cheney Reservoir have dropped below 62% which is a historic low.

As of yesterday, we have officially moved from Stage 1 of the Drought Response Plan to Stage 2 which brings with it new challenges.

Stage 2 consists of:

Mandatory water conservation
Restricting outdoor water usage to one day per week
Prohibiting all customers from using outdoor water from 10:00am to 8:00pm

Restrictions go into affect on Monday 8/5.

There are 4 quadrants (see above) and each has its own day to water, while businesses and food-producing gardens are exempt.

What happens if you are caught?

1 violation: written warning, 2nd violation: $50 fine, 3rd violation and beyond: $100 fine

Swimming season will also end early on 8/11 rather than go through Labor Day and splash pads will close on 9/29.

Golf Cart

To golf cart on the streets or not to golf cart on the streets, that is the question that the Valley Center City Council will discuss again on August 20th.

But what is the law in Wichita?

“Anyone with a valid license and a golf cart with a Kansas tag and proper lights can drive golf carts on city roads and sidewalks during community events when authorized. When operated on a street or highway which is not closed to vehicular traffic, all vehicles must obey all traffic rules and regulations.”
